The Diocese of Las Vegas and the Administration share a commitment to provide the best faculty, curriculum, facilities and extracurricular opportunities possible and to offer meaningful tuition assistance to make it affordable for the largest possible number of families. The challenge of providing a high quality Catholic, college preparatory education to a diverse student population in a caring, nurturing environment is formidable. The raising of significant funds is critical to our ongoing success and this takes shape in several forms:
Ongoing, annual funding efforts provide a meaningful portion of the dollars we offer in tuition assistance each year, as well as critical support for our operations, extracurricular programs, facilities/maintenance needs.
These efforts include:
Gael Force Annual Appeal - Each year an appeal is made to the Bishop Gorman community for financial support with specific needs that make up the case for the Gael Force annual fund appeal. This appeal is made through small group meetings, personal requests and direct mail.
Special Events – Bishop Gorman’s Advancement Office sponsors a series of special events each year to involve and solicit the support of our constituent. These annual events include:
• Bishop Gorman Golf Classic
• Bishop Gorman Wine and Beer Tasting and Auction
• Knight of the Gael
Capital Campaigns are required when Bishop Gorman needs to raise significant dollars to address extraordinary needs beyond that which might be possible through regular annual funding efforts. Our most successful capital campaign in school history, Ensuring the Legacy, raised almost $60 million in gifts and pledges. This continues to provide funding toward the construction of our new Summerlin Campus, and contributions in specific cases to tuition assistance endowments. We recognize that future capital campaigns will be required to increase the endowment for tuition assistance, to cover additional construction costs and to address other top priority needs yet to be determined.
Endowment Funds designated for the purposes of tuition assistance and faculty enhancement have been established. Gifts designated for these purposes are invested under the direction of the Investment Board. Interest and investment income can be used to provide greater continuing educational opportunities to our students and faculty members to make the Gorman experience possible for a more diverse student population. Named and/or memorial scholarship and grants have been established in coordination with the Bishop Gorman Advancement Office. Such awards are created with the intention of carrying out continuing assistance for each recipient over the course of their four years at Bishop Gorman.
Deferred or Planned Gifts
are vital for the future of our school and can provide an important reinforcement for the funding methods outlined above. The Bishop Gorman High School Advancement Office has begun the process of educating the Gorman family regarding Planned Giving opportunities for Bishop Gorman’s benefactors and friends to include our school in their estate planning.
