Bishop Gorman takes pride in the fact that the first academic experience is an in-person and communal experience, whether that takes place in Summer Enrichment or the Academic Year. Furthermore, new students will not receive their school issued iPads until August, nor will they receive BGHS technology training until the fall semester begins. This training ensures that our students are prepared to meet the rigors of the Bishop Gorman curriculum while following expectations of digital citizenship and ethical usage of technology. We cannot in good conscience permit new students to participate until we believe they are prepared for success.
There are still a number of ways you can work an elective into your schedule. One option is to delay World Language or Science then take summer classes next year. Students can also delay taking Health which may allow for a full year of an elective.
Students are required to complete 2 PE credits for graduation (four semesters). Each season of a sport is equal to 1 PE credit, therefore 2 seasons of a sport will fulfill the PE requirement. Bowling and the Dance Team are exceptions and you will only receive 0.5 credit for each season. Students enrolled in Marching Band or Color Guard may receive 0.5 credit of PE. Additionally, Musical Theatre may count as 0.5 credit of PE if the student completes both semesters of Musical Theatre.
No. If your school did not offer high school credit for Health, you will need to take Health at some point. You can do this online over the summer (after this year) or during the school year. It is just a one semester course.
Due to the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 reopening plans, we are not able to have the regularly scheduled Summer Readiness classes in June. We are working to develop an alternate plan and will communicate directly with you once it is finalized.
